RARA LAKE
Mugu District, a part of Karnali Zone. RARA Lake, also known as Mahendra Daha, lies in the Mugu District. It is one of the biggest districts of Nepal. Rara National Park is a protected area in the Himalayas of Nepal and was established in 1976. Covering an area of 106 km2. It is a smallest national park of Nepal. Its main feature is Rara Lake at an altitude of 2,990 metres (9,810 ft). The park was established to protect the unique flora and fauna of the Humla-Jumla Region of Nepal.
Rara Lake (2980 m) lies in the remote Karnali region in the north-west of Nepal and is centerpiece of Rara National Park. Rara Lake is Nepal's largest lake and is a clear blue mountain lake with juniper, spruce and pine trees along its shores and snowcapped peaks in the distance.
Rara National Park can be visited either from Jumla (2.5 days trek) or from Surkhet (10 days trek). Rara is a good destination point for trekking in on the north-western most side of Nepal. The best season for this trek is half of February to First week of June and September to early December. All visitors must pay a park entry fee at Bhulbhule guard post or at park
The park includes, Trans- Himalayan valley with high ridges covered with forest and alpine pastures. With stunning scenery, glorious mountain landscapes and remote villages with friendly people and ever smiling children, this place contains some of the best places in the world to go trekking.
